Gestational Hypertension and Preeclampsia in Living Kidney Donors

To the Editor: Garg et al. (Jan. 8 issue)1 report an increased risk of preeclampsia and gestational hypertension among living kidney donors but do not note whether there was an increased risk of gestational diabetes, although such a risk has been reported.2 Since donors may be more aware of the risks of pregnancy complications than are nondonors, they may report symptoms that may be overlooked by nondonors, which could influence diagnostic rates. We also wonder whether the authors considered which kidney was donated. Ureteral obstruction and dilatation on the right are more common during pregnancy,3 so if the sample contained . . .
